Yamaha EF2000iS Review

Delivers an impressive 2,000 peak wattage and 1,600 running wattage.

8.9 Overall Score Reviewed By Experts

Gas powered, super efficient and ultra-portable, the Yamaha EF2000iS is a next gen inverter generator that squeezes the maximum possible electrical output from every drop of fuel. It can generate total of 2,000 Watts operating for well over 10 hours on a full tank in the economy mode. It delivers a continuous wattage of 1,600 watts at 13.3 or 16.7 Amps 120 Volt. The USFS approved spark arrestor and super quite muffler help reduce sound levels to just 50 dBA at quarter load capacity. Thanks to the use of a smart throttle system, the engine operates based on the load, which in turn helps increase fuel efficiency and reduces noise. Another innovation found in this generator is the Pulse Width Modulation. The Yamaha EF2000iS is backed by a long two year warranty.

About the Yamaha EF2000iS

Highly fuel efficient, the Yamaha EF2000iS delivers an impressive 2,000 peak wattage and 1,600 running wattage, which translates to around 13.3 to 16.7 amps at 120 Volt. It uses a 79cc OHV engine that works cooler and quickly dissipates built-up heat. I find Yamaha engines to be much more reliable and though owning this beauty is at least twice as expensive as any American made brand, it is well worth the investment considering the long time of the engine and the better fuel economy. Onboard, you also get an electrical overload breaker that helps protect it against unexpected overloads.

Made in Japan, this should suffice to suggest how easy it is to use. As with any electronic or electrical device designed and built in Japan, using the Yamaha EF2000iS is a breeze. The recoil cord is easy to pull and operate, it takes a few practice strokes before smoothly purring to life. Some might say that this is after all a small 76cc engine but take any other inverter generator of its size and try starting it, you need to yank at the cable to jerk the engine to life. With this generator, all it takes is a short and sweet pull.

As for powering up various appliances, I found it capable to provide power to my 15,000 BTU air condition and still have some juice left to charge a couple of batteries for my inverter. This in just 2,000 peak wattage rating. The overload indicator has never come on for me and the engine has never ceased. Ok so I have had this inverter generator for 2 months now maybe that’s the reason why nothing has gone wrong with it yet. However, looking at its ability to spring to life the moment it is started, the lack of noise and the ability to work 24 hours at full load, I have to say this is the easiest most reliable inverter generator out there.

Noise levels are much less than what you would expect from a 2,000 peak wattage generator. At quarter load, its about 50 decibels, which is like hearing the low groan of a car engine revving up from 10 feet away. To me it’s a silent workaholic that never whines or complains when the going gets tough. Even at full load, it is almost twice more silent than the last Briggs & Stratton inverter generator I got, which to me at the time felt super silent!

44 pounds, ultra-compact and a top handle carry design, hardly anything that can make it difficult to take it along on boat rides, RV trips, road trips or camping. In short, it is easy to carry and quick to start up too.
