Your search for a reliable and sturdy portable gas-powered generator stops right here. Welcome to the sleek, smart and sturdy Briggs & Stratton 30471 portable generator that is easy to set-up. The 7-gallon fuel tank ensures that it runs non-stop for a good 8 hours (at half load) under the most trying weather conditions. Weighing just 248 pounds, this handy generator has an easy to fold handle, and is mounted on strong wheels, making it easy to maneuver around the home, or while on a trip outdoors.

This powerhouse of a generator with a 10,000 watt initial torque power and a continuous running power of 8,000 watts also has four 120 volt AC outlets, and a 120 volt 30 amp locking outlet. Good for an uninterrupted 8-hour run, this portable generator is non-CARB compliant. Sadly, it is not available for Californians currently, though it can be shipped to other parts of the country. Measuring just 34.75 L X 26.75 H X 23 W, this compact portable generator is probably one of the sleekest and best performing power backup equipment that one can find.

About the Briggs & Stratton 30471

Purchasing the Briggs & Stratton 30471 portable generator was one of the best decisions we took way back in 2011. We realized the true worth of this workhorse when hurricane Irene hit the North East and North Carolina had to bear the brunt. We had to manage for days without power as most of the lines were down. This generator stood us in good stead, and was a perfect backup and we could use most of the appliances and gadgets at home, thanks to having bought it at the right time. It is not just the gadgets, we were able to run our ACs, microwave, and three TVs and did not have to miss any of our favorite shows. Even while not in constant use (when there are no power disruptions) we religiously follow the instructions and start the generator now and then, to keep it in working condition. Other than that, this amazing piece of equipment needs no attention.

It is not just while there is power disruption or a major hurricane that the generator comes in handy. We go on outings frequently, and the best way to power our RV is to plug the generator to it. We have spent days on end out in the woods, and were thankful that we took along the Briggs & Stratton 30471 portable generator which worked effortlessly around the clock, not giving us any problem whatsoever. Though, it is priced at around $1,100 plus, I consider it a worthwhile investment. Moreover, the way it’s been going, it should last us a lifetime, and that makes it all the more satisfying. It is a good three years since we bought this generator, and it is going fine, and we haven’t had to call customer support or tech support, thanks to its excellent performance.

Pros

Cons:

Noise levels are rather high and way above the tolerable decibel limit of 55 dBA. Moreover, it is non-CARB compliant and does not include power cord or fuel stabilizer, which is disappointing. Rather expensive at around $1,100, and a bit noisy too.

Portability

Mobility being very important, the handy Briggs & Stratton 30471 portable generator is designed perfectly, and can be maneuvered around very easily, thanks to the large wheels. The foldable handle is another great feature that lets you take along the generator while on trips outdoors.

Power

This portable generator is powered with a starting power of 10,000 watts, which is sufficient for the initial torque, and the running power of 8,000 watts. It generates enough power for an average sized home that can have all lights, TVs, PCs and other gadgets running without any hitches.

The only honest complaint anyone can make about the Briggs & Stratton 30471 portable generator is the intolerable racket it makes, just as most other generators, save Honda.
